American offshore oil refinery engineering and construction company\u2019s Indonesian subsidiary, PT. McDermott Indonesia, is preparing to recruit up to around 12,000 personnel until 2024 for its fabrication yard, which is based in Batam, Riau Islands Province of Indonesia. The plan was uncovered by McDermott International\u2019s President and Chief Executive Officer himself, Michael McKelvy<\/a>, during a meeting with BP Batam\u2019s top management in Batam on Sunday, August 8, 2022.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McKelvy admitted Mcdermott\u2019s Batam branch to be its largest fabrication yard globally, and that McDermott\u2019s Batam cargo activities bear major effects on its global production.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe admit that McDermott\u2019s productivity in Batam grows significantly each year. This is all thanks to the productive synergy between the organisation and local government, which, in this case is BP Batam,\u201d said McKelvy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McDermott also appreciates BP Batam\u2019s strategic moves to build investment-supporting infrastructures, such as roads, Hang Nadim airport, Batu Ampar seaport, and the Online Single Submission (OSS) <\/em>permits system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staffing Quality and Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides the government\u2019s full support, McKelvy also briefly commented on a distinct quality of Batam\u2019s workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe personnel members we recruit have strong will to learn and work besides being highly dedicated. So we do not need to bother recruiting from outside Batam; (we need to) simply optimise our local staff,\u201d McKelvy added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support its projects, until 2024, PT. McDermott Indonesia is focusing on organising a training centre for its staff members.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c(Our) newest training and development program is starting tomorrow (Monday, 8\/8\/2022). The more personnel trained, the more productive the company will become,\u201d said McKelvy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BP Batam\u2019s Full Support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BP Batam\u2019s Vice Chairman, Purwiyanto, was pleased to hear about McDermott Indonesia\u2019s expansion plan. As the Indonesian government and people are making various efforts in recovering regional economy, such plan, in Purwiyanto’s view, is a glad tiding for the maritime industry sector in Batam.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInvestment is one of BP Batam\u2019s Key Performance Indicators. If McDermott brings about ship construction projects and massively employing personnel in Batam, we highly appreciate (the decision),\u201d Purwiyanto replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purwiyanto added that BP Batam fully supports McDermott\u2019s business activities in Batam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlease don\u2019t hesitate to contact BP Batam if there are any obstacles in obtaining investment permits. We (will) facilitate and sort it out in accordance with relevant applicable regulations so your business processes run smooth, personnel can be well employed according to your strategic plan, and, in effect, our regional economy can grow,\u201d Purwiyanto added.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present at the meeting were Senior Vice President People, Culture & Communications, Gentry Brann; Senior Vice President Global Operations, Vaseem Khan; Senior Vice President Subsea & Floating Facilities, Mahesh Swaminathan; Vice President Fabrication & Marine, Tony Brown; Director of Fabrication Operations, Dino Cimetta; BP Batam Deputy to Chairman in Regional and Investment Management, Sudirman Saad; and several other BP Batam Officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PT. McDermott Indonesia, McDermott International Inc.’s Indonesian subsidiary, is known to be among the longest companies to have set up Batam, having received an award for such title during BP Batam Investment Awards<\/a> last year.
